Bashar Nuseibeh Editorial
Editor-in-Chief, IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering (TSE)

"Recognizing the need for timeliness of publication and the environmentally friendly opportunities provided by online publication, TSE will be moving to a “mostly online” mode of delivery in 2013. Through IEEE Computer Society’s OnlinePlus, TSE papers will not only be available online as soon as they are accepted for publication, they will also be packaged as an electronic offering as the default form of subscription. This will be accompanied by a quarterly 6 inch by 9 inch digest in hardcopy, containing paper details— including titles, authors, abstracts, and citation information—and a disk containing the PDF version of the papers and supplemental material. Readers wishing to continue to receive hardcopies of the full journal can do so for an additional subscription fee, using a print-on-demand service."

Very interesting report by the McKinsey Global Institute on Disruptive Technologies: Advances that Will Transform Life, Business, and the Global Economy. Sounds like a great opportunity for software engineering principles applied to the development and use of these technologies!

Applied theory of Software Systems

Is it better to know software tools, or know theory?  A college diploma will teach you practical skills, while a University degree will provide the general theory.  I believe it is not too much to ask for both. That is how Dr. Hausi Muller, my advisor at the University of Victoria teaches us, and in the real world this has work out pretty good for us so far.

There is an excellent book by Joseph Hellerstein "Feedback Control of Computing Systems", which I consider a bible, to using theory as applied for software systems.  As software education progresses, I personally hope to see more of these concepts applied with software engineering degrees.

ICSE 2012 a success, ICSE 2013 heading towards success as well

Sitting here at ICSE 2013 in San Francisco, CA at the ICSE Steering Committee meeting, reviewing results for last year's conference, the early results from this year's conference, and plans for ICSE 2014, 2015, and beyond.

ICSE 2012 was a rousing success, and it looks like ICSE 2013 will follow suit.  As one of TCSE's flagship conferences, TCSE'S is pleased to support ICSE's continued success.

Welcome to the new TCSE website!

This new website is designed to be a collaborative website. ExCom members are assigned to edit and monitor different parts of the website. As a result, the website will always be fresh and current, facilitate collaboration, be a forum for blogging, and be a stellar resource for TCSE and IEEE Computuer Society.

The main menu or components of this website are Home, News, Conferences, Perspectives (Practitioners, Academics, Students, Women in Engineering, and Standards), Blog, Awards, Media, Calendar, ExCom, IEEE Computer Society, and Contact.

The technology used to create this site is Google Sites.
Here is a serious of highly recommended tutorials on how to use Google sites. Read more
